The Honda New Sportscar eXperimental (NSX) was presented on the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show and became available on the market in 1990. In the USA the Honda NSX was named Acura NSX. The Honda NSX was a true high tech masterpiece by Honda. The NSX was the first road car built with a full aluminium unitary bodywork construction (monocoque). The double wishbone suspension and V6 engine were also made of aluminium. The engine featured titanium connecting rods and the famous Honda VTEC variable valve Timing system giving the engine the possibility to rev up to 8000 rpm! Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna (then racing with Honda F1 engines) tested the NSX intensively. Also the famous American racer Bobby Rahal was closely involved in the testing and development of the Honda NSX. Most of the testing and fine tuning was done on the German Nurburgring. Honda developed the NSX to compete... correction, to be better than the Ferrari (348) and Porsche (911). Contemporary car journalists were impressed, Ferari and Porsche had to face up to a high tech and near perfect contender. The Honda NSX is a true classic and a hallmark of Japanese car design and engineering. A sports car not to be under estimated. Even now over 20 years later you will be impressed by its construction quality, reliability, practicality
and performance. In 1995 the NSX was accompanied by the NSX-T (with Targa roof top) and in 1999 the 'Zanardi' limited edition was presented (51 built to commemorate Zanardi's two CART Champ car championships with Honda/Acura.) 1991 (the first year of production) saw the largest production figure of 3163 cars. 2886 cars with manual gearbox and 277 with automatic transmission. From 1991 until 2005 a total of 8949 Honda/Acura NSX cars have been built.
