Alvis Speed 25 SC Charlesworth Drop Head Coupe, year 1938. Colour green combined with a magnolia (pale beige) leather interior and beige carpet. Black vinyl three position hood. This stylish Alvis Speed 25 SC was sold new in the United Kingdom. The last British owner enjoyed the automobile for over 25 years before the automobile found a new home in the Netherlands. The Alvis comes with a good history file, all the previous owners are known. This Alvis Speed 25 SC is in a super original condition and the car shows obvious traces of use and age (patina) which add strongly to the pre-war character. The Alvis was very well serviced and maintained over the many years of Alvis enthusiast ownership. Documents and invoices concerning service and repairs are present. This Alvis Speed 25 SC was driven on longer journeys regularly; this becomes obvious when driving this impressive Alvis. Mechanically everything works perfectly. The six cylinder in-line engine runs perfectly, and all the controls operate smoothly, this is a great driver car. The Charlesworth bodywork features a 3-position hood which can be used closed, half open and fully opened. The Alvis is currently registered in the Netherlands, this super original automobile can be exported to any country around the globe. The Alvis comes complete with a scarce original 1938 sales brochure.

Alvis was founded by Thomas George John and G.P. de Freville. The first cars built under the Alvis name were manufactured in 1920, and the last Alvis (sports) cars came out of the factory in Coventry 47 years later. The ending of the brand name Alvis was sealed when it was incorporated into the British Leyland concern, where it became part of Rover.
The Alvis cars were of great quality and workmanship and were very fast as well. As for their cars, many parts were designed and manufactured by Alvis’ own staff, and production was small-scaled and exclusive.
In the 1920s, Alvis was the first British car model to experiment with four-wheel drive. In fact, in 1925, they even manufactured sports and racing cars equipped with front-wheel drive, which had also been fitted with an overhead camshaft.
The Alvis Speed 25 and the 4.3 Litre are considered to be the best automobiles built by Alvis. 391 Alvis Speed 25 chassis were built of which 220 are known to survive.
