Morgan 4/4, 1963
Morgan 4/4, year 1963. Colour green combined with a black leather interior, black carpet, black soft-top, and a black tonneau cover. This vintage Morgan features a wonderfully shaped bench which offers ample comfort in this pure British sports car. This gorgeous Morgan 4/4 (series IV) was sold new in the UK, then it was painted red. It is a rare model of which only 209 examples were built by hand. In 1975 the car was imported to the Netherlands and refurbished. Originally, the car was fitted with a 1340 cc Ford Consul four-cylinder engine, the engine was replaced by a 1500 cc engine of the type used in the Morgan 4/4 series V. This powerful and reliable engine is fitted with a twin choke Weber carburettor and delivers a healthy 84 bhp. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a four speed manually operated gearbox. In the years 2001-2004 the automobile was extensively and beautifully restored to top condition. The red car was painted in the current green colour. The restoration is fully documented with a photo report and invoices. The chassis was renewed, as was the wiring loom. A Stainless-Steel exhaust was fitted, an aluminium petrol tank, and electronic ignition. Also, a revolution counter was fitted in the dashboard. The car shows many beautiful original details like the rare 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hub caps! Furthermore, a wide-beam fog lamp is fitted at the front, and a luggage rack ant the rear. This RHD Morgan 4/4 looks a picture and it drives perfectly! A very desirable example!

The Morgan 4/4 was built for over 50 years. The first model, introduced in the year 1936 was the 4/4 with flat radiator which was built until the year 1951. After a four year break (only the Morgan plus 4 was built those years) the Morgan 4/4 was going to be rebuild. The car did not change a lot (conservative as they are at the Morgan company), only the shape of the radiator changed from flat to cowled. Morgan never built their own engine, the early flat radiator cars were powered by Standard or Ford engines. The cowled radiator models were powered by Ford engines. The Ford engine used was known as the "Kent" engine and was also used in Fords Cortina model. Morgan 4/4 1600 cars were powered by the 1599 cc. Ford Kent engine which had a standard capacity of 98 bhp. giving the light car (two seater 660 kg./ four seater 785 kg.) sporty performance. The cars were fitted with a four speed manual gearbox. The modern Morgan 4/4 models are powered by a Ford Zetec 16V engine. These cars feature petrol injection and a five speed manual gearbox. The Morgan 4/4 is a very special car to drive because it has it's own strong character. It cannot be compared with any other roadster or convertible.
