This magnificent Alvis 4.3 Litre special was given a special Brooklands racing style two-seater bodywork many decades ago. This Alvis was sold new in the United Kingdom, and it was exported to the Netherlands in 1999. The old British registration (BRV 55) is still present. In the Netherlands this impressive pre war automobile has known only one owner. The owner has participated in many historic events over the last 22 years, this Alvis is a renowned motorcar in Dutch Alvis circles. This Alvis shows a magnificent vintage patina, and the car is in a good and very reliable condition. The car is fitted with the famous fully synchronised Alvis 4-speed gearbox, the original ignition system, twin petrol pumps, hydraulic brakes, an electric cooling fan for additional cooling, and 19-inch wire wheels shod with Dunlop Racing 6.50 x 19 tyres. Alvis was founded by Thomas George John and G.P. de Freville. The first cars built under the Alvis name were manufactured in 1920, and the last Alvis (sports) cars came out of the factory in Coventry 47 years later. The ending of the brand name Alvis was sealed when it was incorporated into the British Leyland concern, where it became part of Rover.
The Alvis cars were of great quality and workmanship and were very fast as well. As for their cars, many parts were designed and manufactured by Alvis’ own staff, and production was small-scaled and exclusive. In the 1920s, Alvis was the first British car model to experiment with four-wheel drive. In fact, in 1925, they even manufactured sports and racing cars equipped with front-wheel drive, which had also been fitted with an overhead camshaft.
