Lagonda M35R, year 1934. Chassis (VIN) number Z11327, engine number 3088. Finished in dark British Racing Green with a dark green leather interior and matching green carpeting. The car is equipped with a black mohair hood, hood cover, and tonneau cover, and features black side‑screen frames. This majestic Lagonda M35R was delivered new with ST44 saloon coachwork and now carries a T9 open four‑seat sports body. The change was carried out between 2008 and 2018 during a comprehensive restoration, during which the magnetos and carburettors were also overhauled. In 2022 the exhaust system was renewed, and a fresh set of Blockley 5.50/6.00 x 19 tyres was fitted. The car has been very well serviced, is in very good condition throughout, and is mechanically up to date. The current owner has enjoyed the Lagonda in various historic and pre‑war motoring events, creating many lasting memories. With only around 60 chassis produced in 1934–1935, the M35R is one of the rarest pre‑war Lagonda models. The car is powered by the celebrated Meadows 3½‑litre straight‑six, an engine also found in other sporting marques such as Invicta and Frazer Nash. Developed as a lighter and more responsive alternative to the big 4½‑litre M45 unit, the 3½‑litre Meadows is renowned for its excellent machining quality, robust bottom end, strong mid‑range torque, and reliability under competition conditions. This handsome Lagonda M35R is a superb pre‑war open tourer with genuinely sporting driving qualities. The operation is authentically vintage, with a firm mechanical feel to the controls and the familiar double‑de‑clutching action when shifting through the four gears. The Lagonda M35R was introduced in 1934 as a refined and sporting development of the earlier M45. It was built on the advanced R‑type chassis, which offered improved rigidity, better steering geometry, and stronger braking. Power came from the Meadows 3½‑litre straight‑six engine, a unit known for its excellent machining quality and remarkable durability. With only around sixty chassis produced, the M35R is one of the rarest pre‑war Lagonda models. Most cars were delivered with factory saloon coachwork, though several were later fitted with open tourer bodies. The model was aimed at enthusiastic drivers who wanted long‑legged touring performance without the weight of the larger 4½‑litre cars. Period road tests praised the M35R for its smooth power delivery, strong mid‑range torque, and balanced handling.
