Riley TT Sprite Replica, 1935 | € 154.500,--
Riley TT Sprite replica, year chassis 1935. Chassis (VIN) number 22T1331, engine number 22T1331. First registration 27 March 1935. Body colour white combined with a green chassis, green wire wheels and green leather seats in the interior. The original Riley 12/4 (9HP) chassis, upon which this wonderful TT Sprite replica is based, left the Riley factory fitted with a ‘Falcon’ saloon bodywork. The Riley spent a large part of its life with several owners in Devon, UK. In November 1978 the automobile was purchased by the Dutch Classic car museum and dealer ‘Automuseum Bergeyk’ and exported to the Netherlands via the Felixstowe customs office. In the late 1990s plans were made to create a Riley TT Sprite special based upon the 12/4 chassis. In 1935/36 the original TT Sprite was a race car especially built to compete in the Ulster TT which was annually held at the Isle of Man which is still known for the exhilarating motorbike races which are held on the same road circuit. The original TT Sprite was based upon a chassis akin the 12/4 and fitted with the same 1496 cc four-cylinder engine hence the choice to rebuilt chassis 22T1331 to TT Sprite specifications. Engineering drawings were made of for the realisation of the bodywork and the chassis. Detail drawings were made to produce the dashboard, the special suspension, the gear-shifter, head lamp and wing brackets, and other special parts which were found on the racing car. The engineering and drawing work were done by dutchman Kees de Cock (chassis and mechanical components), and Englishman John Pitney (bodywork). The actual build was done by Mr. J Lensveld. Technical drawings dated from 18 December 1998 (chassis specifications/ modifications/ welding), 1 January 1999 (final engineering drawings) and 2003 (detail drawings) are present in the blue book of the history file. In the other book a full photo report is present of the build. Starting with the blue Falcon saloon, also picturing all the people involved, the build of the wood jigs to build the aluminium body, the fabrication of the body, and the completion of the chassis and engine. Aiming for perfection, the build took many years to be completed. The engine is built and tuned to TT Sprite racing specifications, and the gearbox is a rare original 4-speed Riley preselector unit! The car was sold to a Dutch car collector and registered for road use in April 2011. From that moment on the car was serviced and maintained by Classic Job. The current owner has cherished the Riley TT Sprite replica since July 2021. The automobile is in an excellent condition, and it drives impressively. This is a meticulously built 1935 Riley TT Sprite replica which will even be admired by the most discerning Riley connoisseurs. This car is a great find for Riley enthusiasts to enjoy on the open road and in regularity touring events. With modifications to meet the applicable FIA rules, the car can be made eligible to be entered for National and international vintage racing car club racing.
