The Saab 93 features a 3-cylinder in-line two stroke engine and a 4-speed manually operated gearbox with a shift-stick on the steering column. The Saab two-stroke does not brake on the engine compression because of a so-called ‘free-wheel’ function. The Saab 93 was a very successful rally car. From 1956 until 1960 the Saab 93 competed successfully in many important rallies and rally championships. In 1957 Charlie Lohmander and Harald Kronegård competed in the legendary Italian 1000 Miglia road race. (Then a gruelling and very dangerous race over public roads, nowadays a fast but safe historic regularity touring rally). They entered the race privately without the Saab factory knowing about the participation. Their surprising class victory only became known after their return to Sweden! Thanks to this 1000 Miglia participation the Saab 93 is a Mille Miglia ‘eligible’ automobile. This gorgeous Saab 93A De Luxe shows wonderful original details like the Saab steering wheel and the large tachometer, and the car is fitted with period correct Halda Tripmaster distance meters.
