Classic Job 2509

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45, introduced in the early 1960s as part of the 40 Series, was the long-wheelbase derivative of Toyota’s legendary off‑road line. Built on a robust ladder‑frame chassis with live axles and leaf springs, it was engineered for durability and heavy‑duty use in demanding environments. The FJ45 was offered in several body styles, including pick‑up, station wagon and troop carrier, making it one of the most versatile Land Cruisers of its era. Power came from Toyota’s inline six‑cylinder petrol engines, initially the 3.9‑litre F and later the 4.2‑litre 2F, both employing overhead valves with solid tappets. Transmission was typically a three‑ or four‑speed manual gearbox paired with a dual‑range transfer case, providing selectable four‑wheel drive. With its extended wheelbase of 2,950 millimetres, the FJ45 could carry heavier loads than the shorter FJ40, while retaining the rugged off‑road capability that made the Land Cruiser name synonymous with reliability across the globe. Its combination of a torquey straight‑six, selectable four‑wheel drive, and robust chassis made it a favourite in agriculture, mining, and military service worldwide.
