FACEL VEGA was the last truly prestigious French motorcar to offer class, quality and performance in the sadly bygone tradition of Bugatti, Delage, Delahaye, Hispano Suiza and Talbot Lago. With only around 3,000 Facel Vegas built over a period of ten years, this remarkable car has remained a rarity. This exotic make of car still appeals to the imagination of many, including Amicale Facel Holland’s founder, Hans Ruhé. As a Facel Vega driver and enthusiast (for nearly 40 years now!), he has acquired in-depth knowledge of the history of this unique motorcar.
He has compiled a directory describing the nearly 3,000 models built. During the 1980s and 1990s, he met frequently with Facel Vega’s creator, Jean Daninos, to record the history and details of the Facel Vega. As a token of appreciation, Jean Daninos wrote the foreword to the directory.
In 1990, Hans Ruhé started Amicale Facel Holland (AFH) to safeguard the supply of spare parts for this illustrious motorcar. Working with his wife, Marian, he tackled this task energetically. In the years that followed, AFH arranged for the fabrication of thousands of new Facel Vega spare parts. Nearly all the parts necessary for maintenance, repair and restoration of a Facel Vega are available.
The programme continues to expand, including the addition of many innovative ´upgrades´. Today, AFH is the global market leader in this field. Besides Facel Vega spare parts, the range of products includes indispensable technical documentation, workplace manuals and specific repair instructions. The company still offers fast, efficient, personalised ´post order´ service and advice for customers around the world.
Within a few years, AFH had access to a vast network of Facel Vega owners, repairers and enthusiasts. AFH has identified nearly all existing Facel Vega motorcars via its directory and network. The details of these cars are constantly recorded and updated.
The know-how and experience gained over the years have proved beneficial in buying and selling Facel Vega motorcars. For the most part, AFH is familiar with the ins and outs of FVs anywhere in the world. When it comes to the models that AFH offers for sale, every detail is known. In this area, too, it would be a good idea to ask AFH for advice.
AFH has had its own restoration studio since 1995.
Facel Vega cars are not easy to restore. As they are almost entirely handmade, there are many differences in each model. Many parts are not interchangeable. It takes considerable expertise and experience to restore a Facel Vega to its original grandeur.
It goes without saying that AFH has an uncompromising approach to achieving the best possible level of restoration. By adhering to this approach, AFH has now restored more Facel Vegas than anyone else – obviously, in keeping with its acquired know-how and experience.
Fortunately, because they understand and appreciate this approach and method of working, our clients come to us from around the world.
There is good reason why the selling prices of AFH-restored Facel Vegas far exceed the ‘asking prices’ advertised in newspapers.
Our approach also includes a willingness to share our knowledge and experience with car enthusiasts and well-meaning hobbyists. We have already helped a great many professional and amateur restoration projects with advice and assistance.
Hans Ruhé is a well-known expert and authority on the Facel Vega. Many people appreciate and call on his expertise. His advice is often sought in advance of publications about the make. Among others, the splendid book, ‘Facel Vega Grand Luxe Sportif’, published by Palawan Press in 2007, was a testimony to his expert status.
For this reference work, Hans Ruhé provided the appendix with production and technical specifications of all Facel Vega models. The accompanying photography showed to an important degree a unique, detailed overview of select Facel Vega models restored by AFH since the year 2000, with professional photos taken by Marc Vorgers (CCG).
Besides specialising in Facel Vega, AFH has considerable experience with other makes, including U.S. cars (to and including the 1950s), BMW, Bristol, Iso, Lagonda, Talbot Lago and Monica.
