Make history

Citroën SM, year 1972. Colour burgundy red combined with a brown leather interior and matching carpet. This gorgeous Citroën SM was sold new in the United States of America (US). In the year 1990 the car was imported to the Netherlands. The last owner has cherished the car since 2003, in that year the car was already in service at our workshop. At some point in time the original injection system was replaced for three twin choke Weber carburettors which also was an original option. In the year 2003 the owner decided to improve the car. The engine was rebuilt with all the important upgrades like improved valves, better timing chain guides and an improved oil-pump. In 2004 the car was given a perfect new paint job. The original dull cream paint was replaced for the wonderful burgundy which now adorns the car. Also, the American front was replaced for the wonderful glass European style front with swivelling spot lamps! We can look back to January 2009 in the service history, the car has received improvements and service for over €21.000 and the car has driven 22.500 kilometres ever since. This Citroën SM is in a very good condition and it looks a picture. The natural brown leather interior shows signs of use and age. The car features the original Continental Edison radio which is a highly sought-after optional extra. The hydropneumatic suspension works perfectly, the Maserati V6 engine runs beautifully, the 5-speed manually operated gearbox shift perfectly and the hydraulic brakes function superbly. Because of its impressive appearance, the superb hydropneumatic suspension and the potent Maserati V6 engine, the Citroën SM is nicknamed “Sa Majestée” (His Majesty) in France. Looking at this wonderful SM, and especially when driving and experiencing it, this name proofs to be well chosen.

Classic Job 2104

In the year 1968 Citroën took over the firm of Maserati. This resulted in beautiful cars combining the best of both brands. Maserati presented the beautiful Khamsin and Citroën gave us the breath taking SM. Since the early 1960'ies Citroën was thinking about a top of the line GT model above the DS. After the Maserati take over the time was right for such a car. In March 1970 the SM was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The SM was designed by Robert Opron and it was powered by a Maserati 2.7 V6 engine. The automobile was very well received by the press and the public. From start the SM was admired for its fantastic design and it's tremendous combination of comfort and sportivity. De merger of the unique Citroen Hydro pneumatic suspension and the Maserati V6 made the SM a fast and comfortable GT. The road holding was excellent and it was complimented by the revolutionary, speed dependent, DIRAVI power steering system. It is hard to believe but the SM entered the rally championships! In 1971 the car even won the harsh Moroccan rally! From 1970 the SM was powered by a 2.7 Litre engine fitted with three double Weber carburettors. From the year 1973 the V6 engine was given petrol injection, increasing the power output from 170 up to 180 bhp. Between the years 1970 and 1976 12.920 Citroën SM cars were built.
