Riley 9 Monaco Brooklands Special, year 1933. Exterior colour dark red (maroon Amaranto). Interior upholstered with dark brown leather. This magnificent Riley ‘Nine’ Monaco was first registered on 31 March 1933. The car was sold new in the UK and left the factory gates with a saloon bodywork. In recent years the original Monaco chassis was given a wonderfully hand-crafted aluminium Brooklands Special bodywork by Ashridge in the UK. The bonnet, mudguards, and floor were made by Brooklands Bodycraft in the UK. The automobile was built up with all the original Monaco parts like all the Jaeger and Aric gauges, the Rotax starter panel, the steering wheel and all the mechanical parts. The automobile features the Riley 1089 cc four cylinder in-line engine which started the sporting successes of the marque. The “Nine” Monaco engine features inclined overhead valves, hemispherical combustion chambers, individual inlet, and exhaust ports to each cylinder, and two low mounted camshafts. The engine delivers 50 bhp at 6000 rpm. The engine is mated to the original 3-speed gearbox which was also fully overhauled and upgraded to fit perfectly with the new, very low, driving position. The original Riley 9 Monaco “Brooklands” racing car was designed by engineering legends Parry Thomas and Reid Railton at Thomson & Taylor engineering located inside the circumference of the Brooklands circuit. They built a very low-slung sports racing version of the 9 Monaco which was put into production by Riley in 1929. The car was baptised Riley 9 Monaco “Brooklands”. The fastest of the Monaco Brooklands models was raced by Freddie Dixon who lapped the Brooklands circuit at a whopping 113 mph. The presented Riley 9 Monaco Brooklands “Special” was built in the spirit of this legendary machine, The built was executed to a high level of perfection and the result is an ultra-low, sleek, purposeful, and impressive racer. This Riley 9 Monaco Brooklands Special is in an excellent condition, it comes with a custom-built trailer, and a massive file folder with history, photos, and a description of the build. A highly desirable vintage Riley special!
