Make history

Maserati Mistral 4000 GT, year 1967 (first registration 1 February 1967). Chassis number AM109 A11210, engine number 475073033. Colour: silver metallic (Argento Auteuil Salchi 106E1) combined with a red leather interior and red carpeting. This impressively fine Maserati was delivered new on 5 February 1967 to Mario C. Sambrogio Susa in Turin, Italy. Imagine that; it must have been an unforgettable day for the first owner! On 6 June 1991 the car was registered in the Netherlands, and on 3 May 1995 it was purchased by the current owner. This magnificent machine has been cherished by a true enthusiast for 30 years, and the odometer now reads 7,163 kilometres. In 2017 the 4‑litre inline six engine was extensively overhauled. The block was fitted with new (oversize) pistons, bearings, seals and gaskets, and since the overhaul the car has only covered about 1,000 kilometres. In 2018 the bodywork was restored by the firm Van de Visch in Barneveld and repainted from the bare shell. The beautiful interior remains almost entirely original, with the seats reupholstered in red leather by the firm Koning. Naturally, the remainder of the mechanical components has also been exceptionally well maintained and improved where necessary. The braking system was overhauled, with the calipers fitted with stainless steel pistons, the Borrani wheels with aluminium rims re-spoked, and a (partially) stainless steel exhaust installed. This Maserati Mistral 4000 GT is in very good to excellent condition and drives impressively! Built from 1966 until 1970, it is a true thoroughbred Italian GT that embodies the racing DNA of the marque. The Mistral 4000 GT is a rare collector’s car with only 844 examples built. This beautiful specimen retains all its original details and has been exceptionally well maintained. Come and admire this Italian beauty in our showroom!

The Maserati Mistral 4000 was introduced in the mid‑1960s as the successor to the Maserati 3500 GT, and it derives its name from a brisk northern wind. The elegant two‑seater coupé was designed by Pietro Frua.

The Mistral 4000 is equipped with a robust 4.0‑litre inline six‑cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, which allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about seven seconds and reach a top speed of approximately 250 km/h (158 mph). The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a manual five‑speed ZF gearbox. The chassis features independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle, which was optionally available with a limited‑slip differential. Disc brakes were fitted all around, and the use of steel and aluminium in the bodywork helped keep the weight relatively low (around 1400 kg). This combination provided a well-balanced overall package with superb handling and the driving experience of a powerful, luxurious GT.

The Maserati Mistral 4000 GT is a rare and highly exclusive classic car. According to most sources, only 844 examples were built (although another source cites 828 units). The Maserati 4000 was also available as a Spyder model, of which only 124 were produced. The Maserati Mistral 4000 GT was built from 1966 through to 1970, and it remains a classic coupé that embodies the essence of the great, sporty Italian GT coupé.
